O papel da escola para as crianças e jovens das comunidades ciganas

Abstract

A escola deve aproximar culturas e assumir-se como um espaço de pertença e de partilha para as crianças e jovens ciganos, tendo em consideração as suas espectativas e estimulando os seus interesses (ACIDI, 2013). Ao longo dos últimos anos tem sido dado cada vez mais destaque ao contexto escolar e ao papel da educação no futuro das crianças e jovens. No entanto, será que são tidas em conta as especificidades das crianças e jovens ciganos? O presente trabalho de projeto aborda o papel da escola nas aspirações futuras das crianças e jovens, aliado ao estudo das comunidades ciganas. Neste sentido, de modo a perceber em que medida é que a escola influencia as aspirações futuras das crianças e jovens ciganos foi desenvolvido o presente estudo de natureza qualitativa, numa resposta social, em contexto de bairro, que intervém com este público-alvo e com as respetivas famílias através de uma relação de proximidade. A recolha dos dados e a análise dos resultados teve por base a observação direta, a análise documental e entrevistas individuais e grupais realizadas a dois técnicos do C.C, resposta social inserida no Bairro Social de P., às crianças que nele são apoiadas e a um jovem cigano estudante no Ensino Superior. Logo, este estudo tem como finalidades perceber a opinião e a motivação das crianças/jovens ciganos face à escola e a dos técnicos que os acompanham diariamente, bem como, compreender que influência é que a escola tem nas suas aspirações futuras, tendo por base, não só os dados recolhidos como também os pressupostos teóricos ligados à intervenção comunitária, à caracterização das comunidades ciganas, à infância e juventude, ao papel da escola e ao conceito de aspirações futuras. Isto culmina numa proposta de intervenção comunitária tendo em consideração uma das necessidades encontradas ao longo do processo de investigação.

The school must bring cultures closer and assume itself as a space of belonging and sharing for Roma children and young people, taking into account their expectations and stimulating their interests (ACIDI, 2013). Over the years, more emphasis has been placed on the school context and the role of education in the future of children and young people. However, are the specificities and interests of this target audience taken into account? This project approaches the issue of education combined with the study of Roma communities. In this sense, in order to understand to what extent the school influences the future aspirations of Roma children and young people, this qualitative study was developed as a social response, in a neighborhood context, which intervenes with this target audience and their families through a close relationship. Data collection and analysis of results were based on direct observation, document analysis and individual and group interviews with two technicians of the C.C, social response inserted in the Bairro Social de P., the children who are supported there and a young Roma student in Higher Education. Therefore, this study aims to understand the opinion and motivation of Roma children and young people towards school, as well as towards the technicians who accompany them on a daily basis and to understand the influence that this issue has on their future aspirations, based on theoretical assumptions related to community intervention, the characterization of Roma communities, childhood and youth, the role of school and the concept of future aspirations. All of this culminates in a proposal for community intervention taking into consideration one of the needs encountered throughout the research process
